BASKETBALL: The second annual Eisenhower-Davis staff basketball game will be held at 7 p.m. March 19 at Davis Gym. Senior parents at both schools are working together to host the joint fundraiser to help provide a graduation party following commencement at the State Fair Park. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for students with an ASB card. All proceeds will be split to support the graduation parties. KARATE: The 33rd annual Central Washington Karate Championships will be Saturday at Yakima Valley Community College’s Sherar Gym. Eliminations begin at 10 a.m., with finals starting at 7 p.m. Cost is $5 per person.

BASEBALL: The 25th annual Davis Spring Break Camp, for players ages 7 to 14, will be March 29-31, from 9 a.m. to noon each day at the Davis High baseball field. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. on March 29. Cost is $40 per person or pay what you can afford. No one will be turned away. All campers get a T-shirt and there is a barbeque after the final session. SOFTBALL: The West Valley High fastpitch team will be conducting a skills clinic April 1-2 for students in grades 1 through 8. Cost is $35, which includes a T-shirt. RUNNING: Registration has started for the Sage Rat Run, a half-marathon to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. The 13.1-mile run is May 22, starting at 8 a.m. at the Walmart in Sunnyside and ending at the Prosser Chamber of Commerce. Entry fee is $25, which includes a T-shirt. Volunteers are needed. BASEBALL: Registration and tryouts for Yakima National Little League will continue this week. • West Valley Little League will have in-person registration on March 4 at the West Valley Middle School from 6 to 8 p.m. Registration fee is $125 and includes a $50 fundraiser. Rec notes — Local basketball teams shine in tournaments

WALLA WALLA, Wash. — The Yakima Heartbreakers eighth-grade boys went 5-0 and won their championship final in overtime at last weekend’s Walla Walla YMCA basketball tournament.

In the final against the Walla Walla Rebels, Matt Hoon’s 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation forced overtime and the Heartbreakers went on to prevail 50-45.

Yakima’s team includes Ty Lighty, Gus Bonny, TJ Morehouse, Ceanu Strom, Matt Hoon, Bret Oldham, Payton Radliff, Alvaro Soto and Blake Ward. The coaches are Greg Lighty and Lyle Bonny.

• The West Valley Elite seventh-grade girls went 5-0 in the seventh-eighth division of the President’s Day tournament in Ellensburg last weekend.

Unbeaten in AAU tournaments this year, West Valley won the final 44-7 over Ellensburg Elite as Makenzie Kinloch scored 17 points and Lexi Flores added 11.

West Valley’s team includes Courtney Reyes, Bridgette Webb, Alexanna Burge, Makenzie Kinloch, Lexi Flores, Ella Vincent, Ashley Brown, Emily Harris and Anna Miller. The coaches are Jason Kinloch and Jeff Webb.

• The Yakima Lightning won the eighth grade girls division of the For the Love of the Game Basketball Tournament this past weekend in Wapato. The Lightning beat Next Level from Benton City for the title. Prior to that, the Lightning beat Toppenish, Wapato and the Valley Suns.

Team members were Mary Miller, Carley Brown, Toni Sandoval, Brooke Sandoval, Megan McCanna, Deanna Avalos, Kate McGree, Marie Boutillier, Clare McGree, and Grace Martin. The coaches are Jeff Stohr, Jeff Brown, and Pat Martin.

• The 509 Ballerz fifth-grade boys team won the For the Love of the Game tournament in Wapato last weekend. The Ballers beat Zillah in the championship 58-55.

SHOOTING: The Yakima Valley Sportsmen Club is hosting the Cabin Fever Shoot this Saturday, starting at 9 a.m., at the Pomona Gun Club in Selah. There will be Annie’s, 3- and 4-man Buddy shoots, and 5 for $5 long bomb shoot, among other games. Games will shoot from a regular trap and the 60-foot duck tower. Cost is $4 per game. Maximum shot size is six shot, ear and eye protection is required, and no shells will be sold at the club, so shooters must bring their own. There will be a pizza lunch available.

SOFTBALL: The Yakima Valley Community College fastpitch team will conduct a clinic on Saturday at Dunbar Field. Cost is $20. Registration for 8-to-12 year-olds starts at 8:15 a.m., with the clinic from 9 to noon. Registration for 13-to-18 year-olds starts at 12:30 p.m., with the clinic from 1 to 4. inic for 8-12 year-olds runs from 9 a.m. to noon and the clinic for 13-18 year-olds runs from 1 to 4 p.m. Participants must bring their own bat. BASEBALL: All players and parents who intend to play in the Beetle Baseball program this summer are strongly encouraged to attend an informational meeting on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. in the Glenwood Square upstairs media center. Topics include new coaches introduction, fundraisers, player fees and tryout dates. Rookie Beetle, Junior Beetle and regular Beetle players and parents including people new to the program are invited to attend.

• West Valley Little League has the following events upcoming: In-person registration on Feb. 17 and March 4 at West Valley Middle School from 6 to 8 p.m.; a mandatory coaches clinic on Feb. 18 at WVMS from 6 to 8 p.m.; try-outs on March 6 (majors at 9 a.m., minors follow) and March 13 (minors at 9 a.m., majors follow). Online registration is open on the website  www.westvalleyyouth baseball.org. Check the website for any updates and times of events. • Signups for prospective players in this year’s Yakima National Little League will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 16, 18, 23 and 25 at Kimmel Athletic Supply. Farm League is for ages 6-8, Minors 9-10 and Majors 11-12. Registration fee is $100. Tryouts will be held Feb. 27 (Majors 10 a.m., Minors noon) and March 6 (Minors 10 a.m., Majors noon). SLEDDING: Yakima Parks and Recreation will be going to Snoqualmie Pass for snow tubing on Monday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Boys and girls in grades 5-8 are welcome to join. TENNIS: The Yakima Tennis Club is hosting the sixth annual Junior Preseason Tournament at the YTC Indoor Facility. The tournament runs over the weekend of Feb. 26-28.
